Popular in Malaysian as well as Singapore and Brunei, Ais kacang, which literally translates as “iced beans”, has evolved from a simple dish of shaved ice and red beans into a flamboyant dessert with jellies, nuts, syrups and fruits that lend extra colour, texture and flavour. This thirst quenching dessert is also called ABC, and abbreviation of air batu campur, meaning mixed ice. Add these ingredients as you please and experiment with others such as peanuts, jackfruit, lychees and even durian.
